A novel heterogeneous organobase catalyst of Fe3O4/SiO2-guanidine was prepared in three stages. First, Fe3O4 nanoparticle was obtained by co-precipitation method using seaweed Sargassum Sp. as natural reductant. Fe3O4 was then coated by SiO2 using TEOS as silica source, resulting Fe3O4/SiO2. Finally, Fe3O4/SiO2-Guanidine was obtained by modifying Fe3O4/SiO2 with guanidine in the suitable reaction condition. This organobase catalyst was characterized by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS), and Particle Size Analyzer (PSA). The material was then used as a highly active catalyst in aldol condensation reaction between acetophenone and cinnamaldehyde to produce 1,5-diphenylpenta-2,4-dien-1-one. The structure elucidation of the organic product was confirmed by UV-Vis, FTIR, and LC-MS.en_US
